What do I need to know before I activate a debit card?

I'm thinking about activating my debit card but I need some necessary and important Info before I do, so any would be very helpful. Ex. Hidden fees, withdrawal fees.|||it depends on what bank you are using..mine is fifth third and there is no charge for these items
