Does a debit card/check only take money out of your checking account or both checking and savings?

When using a debit card or writing a check, does the money only come out of your checking account or both your checking and savings accounts?

I use HSBC and they make me deposit my money in either my savings or checking.

If it only takes money deposited in my checking, then wouldn't it be better to move most of the money over to the checking side?|||Writing a check removes cash from your checking account.

Debit card is up to you. You tell the bank which account to link

Debit/check card which looks like a charge card is linked to your checking account only|||Checking account only unless you use the ATM machine and you tell it to withdrawl the funds from your savings.

Debit will take the funds right then and there and allow you to get cash back. Where credit will act more as if you wrote out a check...|||The only way you could spend money from your savings account using your debit card is if your savings was used as overdraft protection for your checking account, and your checking didn't have the funds for the purchase (assuming you aren't using an atm).|||Debit cards at Point of Sale terminals will only go to your checking account. If you were to go to an ATM you would be able to access your savings account with the same card.
