How do I get a refund for a item purchased on a friends debit card without them present?

I bought an item which was faulty. The shop has agreed to provide a refund, however It was bought on my friends debit card and I paid him in cash.





What can I do, as I can't get my friend to come with me as he's moved to another city.





Can I get them to refund the money back to his account?|||not without his card.|||Most large chain stores refund directly to the card without needing the actual card present. Smaller stores may not have that ability, and will be more likely to offer store credit.
